Starfield was first announced way back at E3 2018 and looked like it was going to be a next-gen title that would launch along with the PlayStation 5 and/or Xbox Series S/X. However, two years later, and we’ve yet to receive any additional details regarding Starfield. When is Starfield going to release? Is it going to be exclusive to the Xbox Series S/X now that Microsoft technically owns Bethesda? Is Starfield is still in development? These are just some of the questions fans are asking about Starfield. While no official news regarding the game is out yet, the most recent Starfield rumors suggest that the sci-fi title is coming sooner than most of us expect. The rumor comes from a Resetera user named NateDrake, who claims to be an industry insider. He recently posted, revealing that Bethesda plans to share information about the game soon, including when it’s going to release. The same user claims that Bethesda intends to release Starfield this year, in 2021. However, if you scroll down even further in the thread, NateDrake admits that his information is not 100%. This is because, while Bethesda planned on a 2021 release, it is possible that things may have changed since. This shouldn’t be surprising though, given the current pandemic.

What Is Starfield?

Starfield is the latest game from the developers behind famous RPG franchises such as The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Unlike their previous titles though, Starfield is set to take place in space. Unfortunately, we don’t really have much information regarding Starfield outside of the fact that it’s a Bethesda game that’s going to be set in space. Given the current rumors though, it is possible that we’ll hear more about it soon. However, we shouldn’t expect to hear more news regarding Starfield until Microsoft finalizes the deal to purchase ZeniMax Media. This isn’t expected to happen until March. The main reason why this is so important is that the deal could impact which platform Starfield will release on. If it’s any consolation though, Bethesda did recently announce that they are running a Make-A-Wish Evening of Wishes event auction wherein the winning bidder will get a chance to create their own character and have it featured in the game.

The auction is live now and benefits @WishMidAtlantic so they can continue granting Wishes❤️ pic.twitter.com/zg7SKtzuM8 — Bethesda Game Studios (@BethesdaStudios) February 23, 2021 At the very least, this confirms that Starfield is currently in development. Hopefully, Bethesda decides to put an end to all the rumors soon. This is especially since we’re now inching closer to the expected closing date of Microsoft’s acquisition of ZeniMax media.
