With Nickelodeon dabbling in mainstream video games the past few years, most recently with the Nickelodeon Kart Racers games, it was probably only a matter of time before Nick tried out other genres. Now, it seems like Nickelodeon’s next game will see the main characters from the aforementioned shows, and more, battling it out, Smash style.
Nickelodeon’s All-Star Brawl is exactly what you think it is
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is an upcoming fighting game that is being developed by Ludosity and Fair Play Labs. The game will see the most popular cartoon characters from Nickelodeon’s TV shows duking it out in a gameplay format similar to Nintendo’s Smash Bros. Nickelodeon first revealed the game with a trailer on July 13. GameMill has taken a page out of Nintendo’s book before, having also published the Nickelodeon Kart Racers games, which are an obvious take on Nintendo’s Mario Kart series. Similar to the Smash Bros. games, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will give each character from different cartoon series a unique move. Players can choose from 20 arenas themed after a variety of shows to serve as their battlefield. Although each character will have individual movesets, it has been confirmed that certain character moves will be unlocked - although it is not yet clear how you will do this. But, we wouldn’t be surprised if the movesets and even characters will be locked behind a paid DLC or expansion. This is similar to what Nintendo does with its own crossover fighting video game. Here are all the confirmed characters for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl:
Oblina - Aaahh!!! Real Monsters Danny Phantom - Danny Phantom Helga Pataki - Hey Arnold! Zim - Invader Zim Lincoln Loud f- The Loud House Lucy Loud - The Loud House Powdered Toast Man - Ren & Stimpy Reptar - Rugrats SpongeBob Squarepants - SpongeBob Squarepants Patrick Star - SpongeBob Squarepants Sandy Cheeks - SpongeBob Squarepants Leonardo - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Michelangelo - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Nigel Thornberry - The Wild Thornberrys
According to the announcement, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will feature a single-player campaign, along with local and online multiplayer. It will be available in fall 2021 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X, as well as the Nintendo Switch. Judging from the relatively slim roster - in comparison, Super Smash Bros. has more than 70 playable characters - we can expect Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl to bring in more characters in the coming weeks. Nickelodeon is sitting on a treasure trove of TV shows. We’re talking about the likes of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra, Rocko’s Modern Life, and Angry Beavers, all without representation in a video game. We’re certainly not thinking that this can become one of the best fighting games out there. However, if it proves any good, who wouldn’t want to see Aang trade blows with Daggett?
