Oppenheimer is rounding cast with A-listers
After working exclusively with Warner Bros. for years, the award-winning filmmaker has since moved on and found a willing partner in Universal. The film, which will star Cillian Murphy as the titular scientist, is also reported to include Emily Blunt starring opposite of Murphy as Oppenheimer’s wife, Katherine. According to Deadline, the ambitious project will now boast the services of two more Hollywood big names in Downey Jr. and Damon. Damon and Nolan previously worked together in 2014’s Interstellar. Meanwhile, if the reports are true, then Oppenheimer would mark the first time that Nolan will have a chance to collaborate with Downey Jr. However, with production still scheduled for the first quarter of 2022, things can still change. The good news is that this change could be for the better as Nolan could start filling out the ensemble cast with even more big names over the next few months. Downey Jr. finally wrapped up his time in the MCU as Iron Man or Tony Stark following 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. He most recently starred in 2020’s Dolittle and is set to join Gerard Butler and Benicio Del Toro in All-Star Weekend, which is scheduled to be released sometime this 2021. Meanwhile, Damon starred in three films this 2021 alone, with the most recent being Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel, which he co-wrote alongside his longtime friend, Ben Affleck. Nolan’s films are always a visual and cinematic treat, Oppenheimer is shaping up to be no different. It will be interesting to see what the final product will look like once Oppenheimer makes its theatrical debut in July 2023.
